m_millerMelanie Miller founded Junction Dance Theatre in 1998. Her interdisciplinary choreography, dance installations and residency programs have been presented throughout the United States by museums, festivals, universities and presenting organizations such as The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, First City Players & Gigglefeet Arts of Ketchikan, Alaska, Penn State University Berks & Lehigh, The Frick Art and Historical Center, The Andy Warhol Museum, First Night Pittsburgh and others.

Miller has performed as a dancer and actress in the United States and Europe for film, television and the stage, dancing with Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, and London based companies including Yozo Fass Ltd., Squonk Opera, Pat McKeown and Dancers, Pittsburgh Opera, LABCO, Gateway to the Arts and others.  A recipient of many choreography grants and commissions, she has choreographed more than twenty evening-length and shorter works and has also choreographed for film including, the feature film, Zoom, by Dave Davis, and Oakland singles for dating Revolving Door To Tomorrow by Dennis Childers.

She is a published poet and the author of stage and screenplays. In 1998, Miller founded Company Improv, an improvisational movement and creative writing performance outreach project.  As a community artist, Miller has created many large-scale interactive programs for youth, adults and seniors including at-risk youth, incarcerated adults, the people who work with them. She is currently a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Roster Artist in the Arts in Education Division.

Miller graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in English, and studied dance at the full-time contemporary dance program of Balance 1, in Berlin, Germany.
